Van Oord representatives visit Anaklia Port construction area
Van Oord started the mobilization for Anaklia Port’s large-scale marine works. Vessels sailing to the Black Sea from t and Dubai are bringing the modern heavy construction equipment that are to be used for the maritime works in Georgia.
The vessels will soon to be followed by one of the biggest cutter suction dredgers of Van Oord, the Athena. The vessel will be deployed for the dredging and reclamation works. It will be used to perform the reclamation of 5.0 million cubic meters of sand from the sea and placement of the dredged material on the port.
Meanwhile,a team from Van Oord representatives paid a visit to the deep-sea port area. The team leaded by the project manager Jaap Bruinsma explored the port area and made preparation works together with the representatives of Anaklia Development Consortium.
Jaap Bruinsma: “We started up the mobilization. One of the vessels is coming from Rotterdam and another one from Dubai, the dredger to follow shortly after that. The vessels are loaded with floating pipelines. We will place the pipelines for more than 2,5 kilometres and the material will be pumped to the shore to make a platform for further developments. When the site is prepared, we will get the biggest cutter suction dredger we have in our fleet. We are proud to be the part of this project. We have been involved for two years already, developing and progressing, all to make it a big success.”
The ships that are to visit Georgia from Rotterdam and Dubai are carrying high standard, modern heavy construction equipment that specialize on large scale reclamation works, such as placing large volume of sand.
In August 2018 Georgia will witness unprecedented scale of marine engineering works in the country’s history, as the marine works for dredging and reclamation at Phase 1 Anaklia Deep Sea Port project will take start. One of the world’s leading marine engineering contractors, Van Oord, was awarded a contract through an international tender announced by Anaklia Development Consortium (ADC). The Dutch company also acts as a share holder of Anaklia Deep Sea Port and invests in the construction process.
